ELLISVILLE – The Lady Bobcats defeated the Co-Lin Lady Wolves’ tennis team Wednesday 8-1. The loss gives the Lady Wolves a 4-2 record on the season. Co-Lin is back in action Friday, March 24 as Hinds travels to Wesson.

The Lady Wolves lost all three doubles courts to open the match. Co-Lin’s Ximena Daza and Laura Vargas lost 8-3 to Beth Owen and Nastya Buchanova at No. 1. Susanna Ratcliff and Bayli Battle paired up at No. 2, but lost to JCJC’s Kaylee McLaurin and Mattie Mills 8-3. Maddie Ogden and Chantel Quarles fell at No. 3 doubles to April Rudolph and Brooke Cran 8-4.

Daza bounced back for the Lady Wolves in singles play and picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Owen. Vargas lost a tough battle at No. 2 singles to Buchanova 7-6, 6-4. Quarles played the No. 3 spot for the Lady Wolves and lost 7-6, 6-3 to Rudolph. At No. 4 singles, Ratcliff fell 6-1, 6-1 to McLaurin, while JCJC’s Mills defeated Battle 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Ogden rounded out the Lady Wolves roster at No. 6 singles, but lost 6-3, 6-0 to August Parker.

“Jones is deep with athleticism and will be a contender to make nationals,” said head coach Blake Smith. “Ximena played a strong match No. 1 singles and is looking better each day…I was also impressed with Laura Vargas who lost 6-0, 6-4 to the same player in the fall, and played a really close match today.”
