Co-Lin wins NJCAA District D Championship

BILOXI – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves shot lights out earlier this week to claim the NJCAA District D title at Grand Bear Golf Course in Biloxi, Miss. The Wolves led by 13 strokes after the first day of play, and won the tournament by 12 strokes. The stellar play qualifies the Wolves for the NJCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. May 23-26.


The Wolves were the only team to shoot under 300 on day one as Co-Lin carded a 299, and backed it up with a 289 on day two for a 588 two-day total. Mississippi Gulf Coast finished in second place with a 600 two-day total (317, 283) and Meridian finished in third with a 604 (312, 292).

Brandon Blakney and Zachary Smith earned All-Tournament honors as both players carded 145 two-day totals, second best in the tournament. Blakney opened with a 75 in the first round and a 70 in the second. Smith shot a 74 on the first day and backed it with a 71 in the second round. Cole Areseneault posted a 151 for the Wolves (73, 78). Joseph Dendy and Matthew Scoville both finished with a 152. Dendy posted a 77 and 75, while Scoville shot a 79, 73.

Head coach Ronny Ross also earned accolades as he was named the NJCAA District D Coach of the Year.
