PERKINSTON - For the first time in nearly six years the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves came out on the losing end when they faced the Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs on the hardwood. The Lady Bulldogs were 63-58 victors over Co-Lin on Thursday night in Perkinston. The Lady Wolves (4-3, 0-1) played from behind for most of the night as they struggled against a bigger Gulf Coast (4-5, 1-0) team. Co-Lin was without the services of their second leading scorer and leading rebounder, sophomore forward Jessica Wilson. With Wilson out with an injury it was easy pickings on the interior for the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman Christa Owens, a 6-foot-1 post player, posted nine points and seven rebounds for Gulf Coast.

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves overcame a slow start to defeat the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans 84-55 in non-division action last night. The Lady Wolves avenged an 79-78 loss in the first game of the season on Nov. 4. All 14 Lady Wolves who dressed out made it into the stat sheet.Coach Gwyn Young was not a happy man when his Lady Wolves (4-2) started the game. Co-Lin would come out misfiring from the 3-point line and Delta (5-3) turned their misses into easy transition points. Young called a timeout with 11:21 remaining in the first half and his team trailing 12-3. Freshman guard Claresa Banks soon made sure that Young wouldn’t have anything to be upset about the rest of the night as she turned into a one woman wrecking crew in the last 10 minutes of the half. Banks would score 16 points over that time and Co-Lin would close the half on a 34-to-10 run to take a 37-22 lead into halftime.

MOBILE - A close game at halftime turned into a blowout for the Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves on Thursday night at Bishop State Community College in Mobile. The Lady Wolves only led 25-20 over the Lady Wildcats at the break, but held Bishop State to 10 second half points in a 58-30 victory. The Lady Wolves (3-2) started the game sluggishly after the long bus trip to Mobile. Although they never trailed in the game, Co-Lin gave up a 3-pointer just before halftime that cut their lead to five. Coach Gwyn Young saw his team create turnover after turnover via their full-court pressure in the second half and steadily push the lead out past 20 points.
