Bobcats rally to defeat Wolves 77-71

WESSON - The Jones County Bobcats rallied to take a 77-71 win over the Co-Lin Wolves in South Division action. Co-Lin (4-15, 2-6) will host rival Southwest Mississippi on Thursday at 8 p.m. Watch LIVE on www.colinathletics.com or listen on WMJU 104.3 FM.

The Wolves played hard took a 38-30 halftime lead.

But the Bobcats put together an 8-0 run at the beginning of the second half and tied the game at 38-38 with 18:04 left. The teams traded baskets for the next several minutes.

Jones County made a 11-0 run to take a 59-49 lead with 10:59 remaining.

But the Wolves wouldn't give up and pulled to within 73-70 on a layup by Michael Vardaman with 27.2 seconds to go.

But the Bobcats J.J. Bolton hit two free throws with 24.7 seconds left and a Dontavious Lewis basket with 5.2 seconds on the clock wrapped up the win for Jones County.

Sophomore guard Joseph Cunningham led the Wolves with 14 points and 4 assists. Jay Case and Terrence James had 10 points apiece. Fred Fairman had a team-high 9 rebounds to go along with 9 points. Lamar Williams had 3 blocks

For Jones County, Donta Pittman finished with 18 points, while Bolton added 17. Cory Jackson had 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Co-Lin was 27-of-66 from the field (41 percent) while the Bobcats were 27-of-59 (46 percent). They went 5-of-9 from behind the arc while the Wolves were 2-of-15. The Bobcats were 19-of-24 from the free throw line while the Wolves went 15-of-25. Jones County outrebounded the Wolves, 43-27, but committed 20 turnovers compared to Co-Lin's 11.
