Wolves drop pair to No. 1 JCJC

ELLISVILLE – The Wolves were unable to overcome the nationally ranked JCJC Bobcats Tuesday afternoon as Co-Lin fell in game one 16-6 and 3-0 in game two of the MACJC doubleheader. The losses move the Wolves to 13-18 on the year and 7-7 in MACJC play. Jones moves to 33-1 on the year. The Wolves are back in action Friday, April 14 as Coahoma travels to Wesson to take on the Wolves at Sullivan Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.

No. 1 JCJC 16, Co-Lin 6 (8 innings)

Things were looking good for Co-Lin in the opening innings of the contest as the Wolves led 2-1 through three innings. J.T. Wright scored in the second on a wild pitch and Matthew Mordecai drove in Austin O’Flynn who reached on an error.

Co-Lin added another four runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 6-1. A single from Mordecai brought O’Flynn once more, an error scored Reggie Conner and Mordecai, and Chandler Dillard scored on a wild pitch.

The Wolves tried to hang on to the lead, but a string of hits in the fifth plated four runs for the Bobcats, and cut Co-Lin’s advantage to just one, 6-5.

In the seventh, another RBI single from Jones tied the game at six all.

The Bobcats had a huge bottom of the eighth inning as 10 runs scored to end the game. The runs were the result of several base hits and a three-run homer.

Mordecai and Wright led Co-Lin at the plate with two hits each, while Conner and O’Flynn finished with one each. Mordecai posted the Wolves’ only RBIs with two.

Erick Hoard led the home standing Bobcats with four hits, while Shelton Wallace added another three. Wallace finished the contest with six RBIs.

Brayden Hodge earned the win for JCJC. He tossed two innings, surrendering zero runs, one hit, and walking one. Zach James took the loss for the Wolves. He threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, four hits, and striking out one.

Ben Stiglets started the game for Bobcats. He tossed six innings, giving up six runs, five hits, and striking out three. Jordan Bowden got the nod for the Wolves. He pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs, five hits, and striking out three.

No. 1 JCJC 3, Co-Lin 0

The nightcap saw much less action at the dish as both teams posted just five hits. The Wolves were unable to plate any runs, as Kyle Whittington, O’Flynn, Mordecai, and Wright all singled. Kody Smith hit a double for the Wolves in the top of the sixth.

JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after a wild pitch brought a runner home. The Bobcats added another two runs in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single and an error.

Caleb Ledet led JCJC with two hits and one RBI.

Reed Michel earned the win for the Bobcats. He tossed seven innings, allowing zero runs, five hits, and striking out seven. Blake Sigrest took the loss for the Wolves. He pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, five hits, striking out five, and walking zero.
