Wolves bounce back in game two to split with Baton Rouge

WESSON – The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College moved to 12-15 on the season Tuesday night after splitting with Baton Rouge Community College. Co-Lin lost game one 5-2, but came out firing in game two and won 13-3. Co-Lin is back in action Saturday, April 8 as the Wolves travel to Boonville to take on Northeast Mississippi Community College. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Baton Rouge 5, Co-Lin 2

The Wolves fell behind early in game one and were unable to bounce back as the Bears plated four runs in the first three innings. In the second, Baton Rouge scored one on a sacrifice fly and added another three in the third on two walks and another sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the third, Tyler McLeod cut into the Bears 4-0 lead with a single that scored Reggie Conner who reached base on a double.

Kody Smith drove in another for the Wolves in the bottom of the sixth with a hard hit double that brought home McLeod to cut the score to 4-2.

The Bears added their final run in the top of the seven after a throwing error.

Matthew Mordecai, Williams, McLeod, Smith, and Conner finished the game with one hit each. McLeod and Smith both finish with an RBI each.

Seth Daugherty, Hunter David, and Joseph Domingue led the Bears with one hit each.

Keith Meier earned the win for Baton Rouge. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, four hits, striking out five, and walking one. Jake Murry threw one inning, as two relievers helped BRCC finish off the victory. Hunter Fortenberry took the loss for Co-Lin. He threw two innings, giving up one run, and zero hits.

Co-Lin 13, Baton Rouge 3

The Wolves lit up the scoreboard early and often in game two. In the bottom of the second Chandler Dillard ripped a double to right field to score Smith who led off the inning with a single.

Baton Rouge took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third with a double.

Co-Lin responded quickly in the bottom half of the third with four runs. CJ Estave drove in two with a double in the left field gap. Wilkinson and McLeod were brought home. Smith hit a sacrifice fly and Austin O’Flynn drove in one with a single to stretch the Wolves’ lead to 5-2.

A single in the fourth from Wilkinson added yet another for the Wolves as Mordecai scored from third to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Wolves added another seven runs in the fifth after several runs were brought in on walks, hit batters, and errors. The disastrous inning for the Bears gave Co-Lin a 13-2 lead. Baton Rouge got one run back in the top of the seventh on a Co-Lin error, but it was not enough as the Wolves secured the victory in seven innings.

O’Flynn, Smith, and Estave all finished with two hits each, while Wilkinson led the Wolves with three RBIs.

Tyler Laporte led BRCC with two hits, while Hunter David, Charles Belair, and Mossy Mueller had one each.

Jordan Bowden earned the win for the Wolves. He went six innings, surrendering two runs, four hits, and striking out six. Luke Bergeron took the loss for BRCC. He threw two and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, striking out one, and walking one.
