SUMMIT – It was the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears that took round one of the Coca-Cola Challenge on Tuesday in Summit. The Bears swept Copiah-Lincoln, 5-3 and 8-4, in a MACJC South Division doubleheader.

Co-Lin splits pair with East Central

WESSON – Freshman catcher Blake Talbot hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Copiah-Lincoln an exciting 8-7 win in game two versus East Central in Wesson on Friday night. East Central gained a doubleheader split by defeating the Wolves 10-6 in game one.

Wolves sweep Meridian 6-2, 12-2

The Co-Lin Wolves swept a doubleheader form the Meridian Eagles 6-2 and 12-2 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Wolves (4-8) host the Delgado Dolphins (La.) for a twin bill on Monday beginning at 2 p.m.

"It was really good to see our guys battle all day against a good Meridian team," said Co-Lin head coach Clay Smith. "I thought we pitched well and had some very good team at bats."

Co-Lin splits with Kaskaskia College

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves provided head coach Clay Smith with his first career home win when they held off the Kaskaskia College Blue Devils, 5-4, in game two of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils took game one, 5-1, over the Wolves.

The Wolves (2-8) and visitor from Centralia, Ill. were scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Blue Devils (2-6) put four runs on the board. Willie Estrada put Kaskaskia up with a three run home run off of Wolves pitcher Shane Brown. Brown (0-2) gave up five hits and struck out one in 3.1 innings of work.

Chaparrals, Dolphins hand Wolfpack two losses

            NEW ORLEANS – The Co-Lin Wolfpack dropped a pair of non-division games in New Orleans on Friday. The College of DuPage (IL) took game one from the Wolfpack 9-2 and fell to the Delgado Dolphins (LA) in game two 7-3.

            The Chaparrals, from Glen Ellyn, Ill., took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.  Elias Perez drew a lead-off walk, advanced to second on an error and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Perez scored on Tom Van Kooten’s sacrifice fly to right field.

Diamond Wolves earn Smith first win

MOORHEAD - The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves baseball team split a double header with Mississippi Delta on Tuesday giving first-year head coach Clay Smith his first career win.

The Wolves (1-5) were six outs from putting the Trojans (4-4) away in Game 1 before disaster struck in the bottom of the sixth inning. Co-Lin held a 10-4 lead after five innings over the same Delta team that swept them during their season opener in Wesson on Feb. 8. The Trojans would explode for eight runs in the sixth, with two 3-run homeruns doing most of the damage.

Wolves swept by Panola College

WESSON – The Panola College Ponies (6-1) took two games from the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves (0-4) baseball team Friday night on Sullivan Field. Panola staged a late rally to steal game one, 5-4, and rode that momentum into a 9-1 victory in a second game that was shortened due to rain.

Trojans sweep pair from diamond Wolves

WESSON – The Mississippi Delta Trojans came into Wesson and swept the season opening doubleheader from the Wolfpack 10-0 and 7-3. Co-Lin travels to New Orleans on Tuesday to take on the Delgado Dolphins for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

Delta stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring four runs on an RBI double by Carson Crites  and a two-run home run by Michael Beloso. The Trojans built upon its lead with three runs in the fourth inning. A throwing error allowed Belso to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Tyler Mize's single, bringing home Connor Osborne. Jacob Shemport reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Ty Dean.

WESSON – For the first time in over two decades, there will be new leadership on the baseball diamond at Copiah-Lincoln this season. Longtime head coach Keith Case retired following the 2013 season after leading the Wolves for 21 seasons. New head coach Clay Smith is ready to put his first edition on the field as the Wolves open their season on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they host the Mississippi Delta Trojans for a doubleheader. Smith inherits a small group of sophomores that saw significant time as freshmen in 2013.

Lamarcus Lee named MACJC All-State

WESSON – Stand out freshman Lamarcus Lee earned statewide attention as he was named MACJC All-State Second Team. Lee, a Baton Rouge, La. native, led the Wolves during the 2016-2017 season with 15.6 points per game. The freshman started in 18 contests and also led the team in minutes with 32.2 per game. Lee finished the season shooting over 40 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range.

Co-Lin schedules 2017 men’s and women’s basketball tryouts

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College has set dates for 2017 basketball tryouts. Tryouts will take place in Mullen Gymnasium on Co-Lin’s Wesson campus Monday, April 10, with the Women’s session taking place from 12 to 2 p.m. and the men’s from 2 to 4 p.m. Tryouts are open to 2016 or 2017 high school graduates. Interested participants must bring a copy of their current physical, workout attire, and a signed permission slip from their high school principal if the participant is playing a spring sport. Wolves fall to PRCC to close out 2017 season

POPLARVILLE –Copiah-Lincoln Community Colleges men’s basketball team wrapped up their season Thursday night with an 82-67 loss to Pearl River Community College. The loss gives the Wolves an overall record of 10-13 and 4-10 in the MACJC South Division.

“We just have a hard time scoring the basketball, I’m hoping we will be a stronger more mature team next season,” said head coach Kenny Bizot. “We will have a different toughness about us next season.”

Meridian defeats the Wolves in Wesson

WESSON – The Wolves were unable to defeat Meridian at home Monday night as the Eagles shot lights out. The 84-74 loss moves the Wolves to 10-12 on the year and 4-9 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin travels to Poplarville Thursday, Feb. 23 to play Pearl River for the final game of the season. Wolves lose to Southwest in Summit

SUMMIT – The Wolves were unable to over come Southwest’s 58 percent shooting Thursday night as the Bears defeated Co-Lin 80-69 in Summit. The loss moves the Wolves to 10-11 on the season and 4-8 in the MACJC South Division. The Wolves are back in action as Meridian travels to Wesson to take on Co-Lin in Mullen Gymnasium Monday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. The contest is the last home game for the Wolves this season and will serve as sophomore night. WESSON – Co-Lin was unable to hang on to the lead late in the game Monday night as East Central defeated the Wolves 93-84. The loss moves Co-Lin to 10-10 on the year and 4-7 in the South Division. “We really stepped up in the second half…it was good to see us fight back,” said coach Kenny Bizot. “They made some really tough shots on us, that were well contested. It’s a tough loss.”
