Trojans sweep pair from diamond Wolves

WESSON – The Mississippi Delta Trojans came into Wesson and swept the season opening doubleheader from the Wolfpack 10-0 and 7-3. Co-Lin travels to New Orleans on Tuesday to take on the Delgado Dolphins for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

Delta stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring four runs on an RBI double by Carson Crites  and a two-run home run by Michael Beloso. The Trojans built upon its lead with three runs in the fourth inning. A throwing error allowed Belso to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Tyler Mize's single, bringing home Connor Osborne. Jacob Shemport reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Ty Dean.

Big game from Banks leads Lady Wolves

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves (12-7, 5-5) basketball team knows the task ahead of them is a big one. Coach Gwyn Young has preached to his ladies that no one is going to help them get into the MACJC State Tournament. The Lady Wolves are going to have to win nearly every game left on their schedule and hope some of the teams ahead of them slip up. The Lady Wolves rose to the challenge on Thursday night as they easily handled Southwest Mississippi (15-4, 7-3) 60-52, on the Lady Bear’s home-court.

Minor named MACJC Player of the Week


Feb. 4, 2014

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln sophomore guard Ashley Minor has been named MACJC Player of the Week for all games played Jan. 27-Feb. 1. For the week Minor averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals per game in leading the Lady Wolves to a 2-0 record. The Natchez native scored 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds in Co-Lin’s 78-59 victory over Pearl River. Minor, a product of Natchez High School, was 5-for-7 from the floor and dished out a team high five assists.
